Office Word 2007 handles AutoText entries differently than in previous versions of Word.
\nIn previous versions of Word, AutoText entries are stored in the Normal.dot<\/strong> template or in user templates.
\nOffice Word 2007 replaces the Normal.dot<\/strong> template with the new Normal.dotm<\/strong> template, which supports new file formats and other features in the 2007 Office system and also contains different styles and formatting.<\/p>\n

Instead of storing AutoText entries in the new Normal.dotm<\/strong> template by default, Office Word 2007 stores the entries as a separate template in the Document Building Blocks<\/strong> folder.<\/p>\n

The Document Building Blocks<\/strong> folder is new to Office Word 2007.
\nCompanies can create a template and store it in the Document Building Blocks<\/strong> folder. This avoids any interaction with the Normal template.<\/p>\n

Migrate AutoText entries to Word 2007<\/h3>\n

  1. Copy the old Normal template from the %APPDATA%\\Templates<\/strong> folder to the %APPDATA%\\Document Building Blocks<\/strong> folder. During installation, the old Normal template was renamed from Normal.dot<\/strong> to Normal11.dot<\/strong>. (By default, %APPDATA%<\/strong> is C:\\Documents and Settings\\<username>\\AppData\\Microsoft\\<\/strong>.)<\/li>\n
  2. Open %APPDATA%\\Document Building Blocks\\Normal11.dot<\/strong> in Office Word 2007.<\/li>\n
  3. Save the file as AutoText.dotx<\/strong>. The file upgrades to the new file format.<\/li>\n
  4. Open AutoText.dotx<\/strong> in Office Word 2007, and go to the Building Blocks Organizer<\/strong>. To do this, click Insert<\/strong>, click Quick Parts<\/strong>, and click Building Blocks Organizer<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  5. In Building Blocks Organizer<\/strong>, you can move AutoText entries to the Quick Parts gallery or a gallery you prefer. To do this, select an AutoText entry, click Edit Properties<\/strong>, select the appropriate gallery in the Gallery<\/strong> drop down box, and click OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n

    If you also want to make AutoText entries available while you compose e-mail messages, perform the following procedure.<\/p>\n

    Migrate AutoText entries to the NormalEmail.dotm template<\/h3>\n

    1. Open AutoText.dotx<\/strong> (in %APPDATA%\\Document Building Blocks<\/strong>), and then save it as Temp.dotx<\/strong> (you are creating a copy in the same folder).<\/li>\n
    2. Copy NormalEmail.dotm<\/strong> from the %AppData%\\Templates<\/strong> folder to the %AppData%\\Document Building Blocks<\/strong> folder.<\/li>\n
    3. Open Temp.dotx<\/strong> in Office Word 2007 and go to Building Blocks Organizer<\/strong>. To do this, click Insert<\/strong>, click Quick Parts<\/strong>, and then click Building Blocks Organizer<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    4. In Building Blocks Organizer<\/strong>, move all the AutoText entries from the Temp template to the NormalEmail template. To do this, select an AutoText entry, click Edit Properties<\/strong>, edit the appropriate properties, select NormalEmail<\/strong> in the Save in<\/strong> drop-down box, and then click OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    5. When you finish moving all AutoText entries, close and then delete %APPDATA%\\Document Building Blocks\\Temp.dotx<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    6. Move NormalEmail.dotm<\/strong> from the %AppData%\\Document Building Blocks<\/strong> folder to the %AppData%\\Templates<\/strong> folder, replacing the original NormalEmail.dotm<\/strong> in the %AppData%\\Templates<\/strong> folder.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
